What is an Aqajoon?

Aqajoon is a Persian word constructed from two separate words: aqa (can also be written agha) and joon (can also be written jan).

  • Aqa is an honorific that means “master”, or “chief” and originates from Turkish (and Mongolian before that). It was used in the Ottoman Empire to refer to officers, or those working as officials of the court. In modern Persian use, it’s meaning is closer to “Sir”, or “Mr”.
  • Joon is an interesting word that means “life” or “soul” but is often used to mean something closer to “dear”.

Therefore, aqajoon roughly translates to “Dear Sir” and would traditionally be used to refer to the head of the family.

For us, Aqajoon symbolises wisdom, experience and a trusted advisor. These are the qualities that we hope to demonstrate to you.
